Collection of weapons and military equipment
In the collection of weapons and military equipment, which is one of our basic collections, we keep firearms and cold steelfrom the period from the 15th century until today, which have been in use in the Balkans. The collection is divided into three parts: handicraft weapons, factory-made weapons and military equipment. Craft weapons from the 18th and 19th centuries include specimens of cold steel (yataghans, sabres, mostly of the Turkish type) and firearms (blunderbuss – rifles, ”arnautke“), pistols („prizrenci“, ”kubure pećanke“ and ”fočaci“) of Turkish-Balkan provenance.
Industrially made weapons (from the middle of the 19th century to the end of the 20th century) – includes small arms (pistols, revolvers, rifles, carbines, machine guns, submachine guns) as well as artillery weapons such as mortars and cannons. There are more rifles of various systems and models, from caps, through ”ostraguš“ – single-shot and multi-shot to semi-automatic and auto-automatic, mostly from the arsenals of the Serbian and Yugoslav armies. Along with the weapons, military equipment is also kept (water bottles, flasks, compasses, binoculars, medical and officer bags, ammunition boxes). Military equipment for handicraft weapons includes gunpowder, firecrackers, ”zejtinlice“, ”arbije“, powder kegs and holsters for carrying weapons.
