Prizes and Awards

For its seven decades of existence, the National Museum in Leskovac is a proud holder of over 150 awards and recognitions. In 1998, the National Museum in Leskovac received the Vuk Award, one of the most significant awards given to institutions and individuals in culture. The exhibition Golden Age of Leskovac, whose authors were awarded the IKOM award and named Curators of the Year, attracted a lot of public attention. The “Mihailo Valtrović” award given by the Museum Society of Serbia to museum workers and institutions was given to the Museum three times, for the first time in 1986, then in 2015 for the new permanent exhibition Time Machine of the Leskovac Region and the exhibition South of Serbia in the Great War. Archaeologists of the National Museum in Leskovac, the authors of the project Secrets of Archaeological Depots, are the winners of the “Mihailo Valtrović” award, in the category of author team for exceptional results in 2017.

Due to special merits and efforts to mark the 500th anniversary of the monastery of St. John the Baptist, which symbolically represents the spiritual renewal of this area, the National Museum of Leskovac, won the Grammar by His Eminence the Bishop of Nis G.G. Arsenija. The museum also received the recognition “Museum for 10” – from the Founding Board of the event “Museums of Serbia: ten days from 10 to 10”, as one of the most successful participants in 2016

The National Museum in Leskovac is the winner of three October awards of the City of Leskovac: in 1970 it was awarded to the magazine Leskovački zbornik, in 2016 to the curators of the museum and in 2017 on the occasion of 70 years of existence and successful work.

At the Formal Assembly of NK IKOM Serbia held on May 16, 2019 in the atrium of the National Museum in Belgrade, Suaj Aksoj, President of the International Committee of Museums, presented annual awards and recognitions in the field of museum activities. The National Museum in Leskovac was awarded the “Museum for 10” award as one of the most successful participants in the Museums for 10 event for 2018.

In 2019, at the solemn assembly of the Museum Society of Serbia in Čačak, the National Museum in Leskovac was presented with another, third “Mihailo Valtrović” award. The award was given to the museum for exceptional results in professional work achieved during the period January-December 2018, which in terms of professional and scientific significance represent a prominent contribution to the development of Serbian culture.

In June 2019, after a public call, the Protector of Citizens decided that the city of Leskovac will receive an award for its contribution to the development of accessibility of content in the field of culture for an initiative related to projects of the National Museum in Leskovac called “Increasing accessibility in museums” the past”.

The National Museum of Leskovac is also the winner of the “Cultural Pattern” award, which in 2019 went to people and institutions whose work, constant effort exceeded the standards of the profession and the average standards of our society, which in their efforts and results rose high and encouraged and encouragement of the environment in which they work. The recognition is a greeting and a bow of the Ministry of Culture and information to people and cultural institutions for their hard work. The National Museum of Leskovac received recognition for the realization of the projects: “Touch the Past”, “Increasing the accessibility of the museum” and “Multimedia guide through the Empress’ city”.

In February 2020, on Statehood Day (February 15, 2020), the President of the Republic of Serbia, Mr. Aleksandar Vučić, awarded the National Museum in Leskovac the Sretenje Order of the III degree for exceptional merits for the Republic of Serbia and its citizens in the field of culture and museum activities.
